Austria offers a good opportunity for medical device companies.

Austrian hospitals receive a global budget, adjusted using diagnosis-related group (DRG) system. There is a limited possibility to change the DRG system. The key market access challenge in Austria is related to the introduction of novel procedures into the system. Typically, this requires a health technology assessment by the Austrian Institute for Health Technology Assessment (AIHTA). Evidence requirements of AIHTA are very high, and historically, up to 78% of the Institute’s recommendations were negative.

We offer a seminar on critical elements of the hospital reimbursement system for medical devices in Austria that can guide your decision-making about the introduction of novel technologies into this market.
