This online on-demand seminar gives a comprehensive understanding of the hospital reimbursement landscape for medical devices in Portugal. Provided in the form of the presentation in Acrobat PDF
Portugal offers relatively easy introduction of novel medical technologies into its health care system, however, budgetary concerns exist.
Hospitals are primarily funded using a global budget principle, with adjustment using a DRG system. Reimbursement system is relatively static. The role of health technology assessment is growing, but currently it plays a very limited role in introduction of medical technologies.
We offer a seminar on critical elements of the hospital reimbursement system for medical devices in Portugal that can guide your decision-making about the introduction of novel technologies into this market.
Key stakeholders are reviewed, including payers, policy-makers, decision influencers and support bodies (developer of procedural classification/DRG system)
Money flow and distribution of funds, an overview of the hospital payment system
Overview HTA framework and early awareness and alert program for medical technologies and their impact on reimbursement decisions
Some topics are not specifically covered in this seminar: reimbursement model in out-patient settings, reimbursement for medical aids (devices for home use) and in-vitro diagnostic tests, funding of capital equipment.
The introductory presentation also does not include details of reimbursement application processes (for example application form, requirements, details of the process for the creation of procedure code or DRG change).
